Live Music at Proctor Friday Night

St. Patrick's Day in Wrentham

On Saturday, the Sons of the Wrentham American Legion (592 South St.) will be hosting a St. Patrick's Day Semi-Formal and all are welcome to attend. The event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $10 at the door.  The menu includes a corned beef dinner, and there will be a DJ/Karaoke, semi-formal king and queen contest, dancing and a photographer to capture the event.

The Tavern at Wrentham, 263 Shears St,  will host the Irish Warthogs Saturday night. All you can eat corned beef dinner will be served both Saturday and Sunday.  The weekend extends into Monday with Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, Steak and Eggs, Sausage and Eggs with corn beef hash.

Mr. Dooley's Wrentham, 303 Shears St., will  hold a family day Saturday starting at 9 a.m. There will be music, Irish Step dancing, face painting and corned beef dinner. Mike Ho will perform from 1 to 5 p.m. and The Jaime Proctor Band will go on at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, brunch will start at 9 a.m. The Wrentham based band In Transition will go on at noon followed by Mr. Dooley's Sunday afternoon Traditional Irish Sessuin from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. The evening closes with an Open Mic Jam starting at 7 p.m.

The Terrace Cafe, 36 South St., will hold a Party on the Patty'O. The downtown establishment will have live music, giveaways, and Irish food throughout the weekend.

The Chieftan Pub, 23 Washington St., Plainville, will  have music throughout the weekend with Colm O'Brien playing Saturday night at 9. The Berkshire Valley Boys will play Sunday afternoon from 2 to 9 p.m.

The Jammin' Divas to Perform at Proctor Mansion Inn

Miano Returns to Wrentham

On Saturday night, Wrentham Tavern will turn back the clock to the era of Sinatra, Martin and Davis. Vocalist Mike Miano will bring back the music of the Rat Pack in an event of classic standards. Miano says his performance gives people the opportunity to enjoy a style of music he genuinely loves but also allows them to continue to socialize. "I try to keep the volume levels comfortable and so people can converse with one another without having to raise their voices," he explains.

Miano has been singing the Sinatra era music for close to a decade, but he's been performing music since he was a teenager first playing drums, then piano, bass and horns. "But singing was always my first love," he says. "I always felt most joined to the music and lyrics when just holding a microphone and not having to think about anything but the lyrics."

While Miano does perform quite a bit of Sinatra music, he makes it clear that he's not a Sinatra impersonator and doesn't have his distinctive voice quality. "I probably do better at Dean Martin, but I would rather just sound like myself doing their music while trying to be true to their presentation style and phrasing," he says.

The Roy Scott Big Band will be presenting Jazzy Valentine on February, 9th.Roy Scott Big Band is an 18-piece group that plays the music of a bygone era.  Enjoy "Great Hits of the Swing Era," featuring a tribute to Benny Goodman. Lake Pearl Luciano's is holding a special romantic dinner on February 14, for Valentine's Day. The evening will be filled with dancing thanks to the music of DJ Sonny. The menu can be viewed here.

On February 17 there will be a Bridal Open House. The open house will showcase Lake Pearl Luciano's ballrooms and many of the venue's preferred vendors will be onhand. Concert Planned at Proctor Mansion

The evening with Taarka is also the group's release party for its 6th album -- Adventures in Vagabondia. 

Local Restaurants to Compete for Best Chili of 2013

The competition will be hot among some of the best chili joints in Wrentham and the surrounding towns. Wrentham's Mr. Dooley's Olde Irish Country Pub and James' Breakfast and More, will go up against Norfolk's Eagle Brook Saloon, Bourque's Restaurant and Horse N' Carriage as well as Budabings 50s Cafe from Millis. The competition is part of the Norfolk Lions 6th annual Chili Fest to be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 6 pm, St. Jude Church Hall, 86 Main Street, Norfolk. The six area restaurants are competing for bragging rights to Best Chili of 2013 but more importantly helping to raise funds for the Norfolk Food Pantry. Everyone will get to sample each chili and then vote for your favorite. The winner will be announced at the end of the evening. In addition to the chili, you will also be served mac & cheese, salad, cornbread, beverages and dessert. It's a great meal and lots of fun for the whole family. Mike Tarara Band will provide the entertainment. Tickets are $15 for anyone over 10 years old and $5.00 for all others. Jazz Sunday Brunch in Downtown Wrentham

The Terrace Café has added a Jazz Sunday Brunch to its current fare. The brunch takes place Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm, and includes a buffet-style menu of breakfast entrées and meats, fresh pastry, lunch entrées, gluten-free choices, and a range of beverages from cappuccino to mimosas.

Local saxophonist and vocalist, Mike Gianlorenzo will perform. The cost is $14 per person for all-you-can-eat. Children under 12 are $8.

The café serves lunch and dinner (including gluten-free dishes), beer and wine, and pastry from a North End bakery. The winter menu includes homemade soups. The Jazz Sunday Brunch is the newest addition to the Terrace Café’s menu, as they continue to expand and refine their offerings in response to customer tastes. They also accommodate private parties.
