KP Hosts Celebrity Hoop Game

Members of the New England Patriots Celebrity Basketball team took on an impressive lineup of King Philip faculty, business owners, and local elementary school students at the high school gym Tuesday night. While the football players scored the most points, the winner of the night was the KP Booster Club, the host of the first annual Patriot Celebrity Basketball event.
Before the opening tip-off, the MC led the crowd in a solemn tribute to the Boston Marathon bombing victims Martin Richard, Krystle Campbell, and Lu Lingzi , the 264 injured and MIT Police Officer Sean Collier who was shot during the manhunt for the bombing suspects.
The KP community showed its Boston Strong mettle by following the example set by Bruins fans at the April 17 game against the Buffalo Sabres when it did its own unaccompanied rendition of the National Anthem.
In true New England spirit, once the game began, the fans cheered loudly and gave their attention to the matter at hand.
The KP All-Stars roster included vice-principal John Gould, social studies teacher Andy Connors, boys varsity coach and Division I basketball player Tim Clifford, children’s book author Jeff Kinney of Plainville, oral surgeon Bob Moskal, and students Adian Bender, Jacob Mingles, and Brad and Will Kinney.
Cornerbacks Kyle Arrington and Aqib Talib, defensive back Devon McCourty, tight end Daniel Fells, running back Shane Vereen, and retired quarterback and Wrentham resident, Scott Zolak, represented the Patriots’ honor and were joined by Ian Zimmerman and Wrentham firefighter Bobby Holst.
The KP All-Stars jumped to an early lead. They traded buckets with the Pats and managed to end a 19 – 17 first quarter within two points of the lead.
KP’s offensive output dropped in the second quarter scoring 14 points as they played and amiable foil to the Pats athletic pyrotechnics who added another 25 on the scoreboard to end the quarter 44 – 31.
At half time the MC cranked up the music as event goers queued up at the autograph tables, which also included Kinney who is best known for the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series of books and movies.
The autograph session was very well managed. That atmosphere was festive and the lines moved quickly. People had more than enough time to get signatures from all six Patriots and Jeff Kinney.
The start of the third quarter for KP set the Kinney boys, Jeff, Will, and Brad and CJ Parker and Andy Connor against Zolak, Arrington, Talib, McCourty, and the offensive surprise of the night Zimmerman who played all four quarters and whose double digit scoring effort put a smile on everyone’s face.
At the end of the third quarter the MC held a drawing for the raffle and announced the winners. Spectators paid a dollar a ticket for an opportunity to win one of several footballs signed by all the Patriots attending the event. With the music cranked up, the winners were called out onto the court to receive their prize by airmail. All the Pats took a turn at hucking the ball to smiling fans. The game ended in a flurry of alley-oops and dunks with a final score of 91 to 72.
KP Boosters hosted the event to “Fund our scholarships and special projects,” according to a letter from Board President Patty Bingel and members Kelly Foxx, Arthur Keegan, and Carysue Hogan.
Recent projects include donations for scoreboards and banners, equipment purchases, batting cages, and the practice fields. They also hope to raise money for an artificial turf field.

KP Spring Pops Concert is May 11th
The 17th annual King Philip Spring Pops Concert will be held on Saturday, May 11th at King Philip Regional High School Field House Rte. 140 (201 Franklin St), Wrentham.
This concert is presented by the King Philip Regional High School music department and the King Philip Music Association.
This year’s theme, “Spring Renaissance". The evening is modeled after the Boston Pops concerts at Symphony Hall with both table and open seating. Patrons can order dinner from a selection of light and refreshing entrees along with appetizers, desserts, snacks and beverages while seated at tables in the field house to be enjoyed while listening to music played and sung by the school’s acclaimed musicians and chorus students.
This year's performances include the MICCA Gold Medal Recipient High School Chorus, Concert Band and Symphony Band along with the Jazz Band.

Massachusetts Spitfires Announce Tryout Dates
Massachusetts Spitfires play in the New England Girls Hockey League which is the strongest, most competitive girls and women’s hockey league in the United States.

The Massachusetts Spitfires just celebrated its tenth year of excellence. The program works with players to develop their hockey skills, as well as provide a clear path for academic and athletic success. The program has a long and rich history with coaches and administrators among private schools and colleges. The MA Spitfires assist in the placement of players in prep schools and colleges throughout the country. On an annual basis, MA Spitfires distribute media guides with years of graduation to all local private/prep schools and colleges to maximize the student athlete’s exposure.
The MA Spitfires have alumni playing at all levels of women’s hockey including on the U.S. Women’s National Team. The program was foundedby Vicki Movsessian. Vicki is a local Olympic Gold Medalist from the 1998 Olympic Hockey Team. She is the president of the Spitfires Organization and oversees Hockey Operations.
The NEGHL – New England Girls Hockey League was established over 35 years ago. It remains the strongest, most competitive girls and women's hockey league in the United States. For more than a decade, the Massachusetts Spitfires have been an integral part of the league. Today, the NEGHL announces Massachusetts Spitfires Founder, Vicki Movsessian as a member of its first ever board. The NEGHL announces a renewed commitment to the development of its members by providing additional games, new scheduling and multiple levels of competition.

Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students. Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport. Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in this sport and is consistent in establishing criteria for eligibility in competition. Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up.
Works closely with the athletics director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests.
Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork. Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility. Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students of particular program.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Leonard Named Coach of the Year
King Philip Regional High School's Jim Leonard has been selected as the 2012 Northeast Sectional Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Coaches Association. Leonard has coached the KP softball team for 10 years and just announced that he would step down from his post. The honor recognizes Leonard as the Softball coach of the year for the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
He will be recognized with all several other coaches from across the state at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Annual meeting in April. Leonard leaves behind a remarkable legacy of winning. During his tenure the team won two Division 1 State Championships, six consecutive Hockomock League titles, and had a record 149-17. KP Athletic director Steve Schairer has said Leonard's contribution to the school as a coach and education have been "truly remarkable."

New Pro Lacrosse Team Features Local Talent
Hoffmeister played college lacrosse at Hartwick College and over the course of a 10 year professional career he won championships in Prague (Aleš Herbesky Memorial) and Adelaide, Australia with the Glenelg Lacrosse Club. Now on the Rockhoppers, he'll be playing closer to home and there are several familiar and local faces on the team. The head
coach is Wrentham's Jack Piatelli and King Philip Athletic Director Steve Schairer serves as an assistant coach. "King Philip Lacrosse did not exist when I was a kid," he says. "It wasn't until my brother was old enough to play that my mother, Jack and Steve started up the program where I would volunteer coach after practices and on school breaks"
The relationship between Piatelli and Hoffmeister is one that spans 18 years. He's played with him, coached with him, and even worked with him professionally. "Being coached by Jack will be a great experience," he says.
He's known Schairer just as long, but this will be the first chance to play for him. "I have never had the privilege of being coached by Steve and am really looking forward to it," Hoffmeister says. "Steve is a well known lacrosse coach and player in New England and I am excited to be part of his next coaching chapter."
The Rockhoppers season started this past Saturday in the Bluegrass state against the Kentucky Stickhorses with a 10-9 win. The team will have its home opener on January 12th versus the Baltimore Bombers. The fourth team in the league is the Rhode Island Kingfish. Rockhoppers play a 12 game schedule. The team's home games are at the New England Sports Center, 121 Donald Lynch Blvd, Marlborough. The North American League is setup to be a family friendly league that focuses on the quality of the sport and features elite local players. Tickets are available now for all home games. Leonard Steps Down as Softball Head Coach
ESPN Boston is reporting King Philip softball head coach Jim Leonard will step down as softball coach for the team. The reports says the decision was based on family and having more time to spend with his children.
