Local Jazz Musician to Perform Benefit Concert

King Philip Music Association is presenting Plainville native, and jazz saxophonist, Jeremy Udden in a benefit concert for KP Music Programs on March 26 at the high school. Udden will perform selected songs from his recently released CD entitled, “Plainville,” an ode to his upbringing in the area.  Udden will be backed by musicians on a combination of pump organ, banjo, bass and drums.  Tickets may be purchased in advance by visiting the KPMA website. If purchased in advance, the ticket costs are $15 for adults and $5 for students (K-12) and senior citizens. Tickets may be available at the door on the day of the show; prices will be $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.  Doors open at 7 pm. Drums and Flags Square Off

Saturday, February 26th, King Philip High School is the site of a competitive show of Indoor Percussion Ensembles and Color Guard Teams from across the state. The show starts at 2 pm, with KP Percussion tentatively scheduled to perform at 4:25 pm with its show “Polarize” which features music of Incubus, Mars Volta and Edward Shearmur.  The Winter Color Guard is scheduled to perform its show entitled “The Awakening” at 8:58 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $8 per adults and $5 for students and seniors. The competition is sponsored by the New England Scholastic Band Association.

Neponset Valley Philharmonic Orchestra to Perform at KP

  
 

The Neponset Valley Philharmonic Orchestra will hold its spring concert at King Philip Regional High School, Sunday, March 21st at 3:00 pm. The concert will include an appearance by guitar soloist Robert Belinich performing Joaquim Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. The afternooon of music will also include performances of Kevin Kaska’s Fanfare for a New Millennium for Brass Ensemble, Franz Schreker’s Intermezzo for String Ensemble and Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9.

The Neponset Valley Philharmonic Orchestra has been performing orchestral and chamber music since 2007. The group performs in communities within the Neponset Valley area. Tickets may be purchased in advance here.

Tickets are $30 for adults with advance purchase and $40 at the door. Tickets for seniors are $20 in advance and $30 at the door, while student tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door.

 

Local Musicians Audition For Music Festival

Elementary school students from Wrentham, Norfolk, and Plainville auditioned for the solo and ensemble music festival Saturday morning. Sponsored by the King Philip Regional music program, over 220 young musicians auditioned for a place in a district wide honors band and to have an opportunity to perform as a soloist or in a duet, trio, or quartet this spring.

Peter Tileston, director of music at KP, started the program 23 years ago and says this is an opportunity for young musicians to play in a big band with high school students.  "This was something I experienced in elementary school," he said. "It kept me excited about music."

The excitement comes from the opportunity to perform. Tileston says students are competing against sports where practices are followed by games. With music, there are more practices and not many occasions to actually play before a crowd. The music festival gives students "more performance opportunities.”
