The Boy Scouts of America turned 100 this year and without a single wrinkle in their faces or a hint of grey hair, the Cub Scouts of Wrentham held a birthday to commemorate a century of scouting. At their annual Blue & Gold Ceremony, held on February 28th in the Wrentham Elementary School’s Delaney Cafeteria, Pack 131 brought together all the Cub Scout dens to celebrate awards and promotions. Friends and family, as well as special invited guests, watched as the Scouts received their honors and advanced.

During the celebration, Tiger Scouts who earned their Bobcat Badges participated in a face painting ceremony with their parents. The ceremony is steeped in symbolism as each boy received blue, yellow, white, and red paint on their face. The blue paint on the cub scout’s forehead depicted the spirit of the bobcat which is to remind him to do his best. Yellow was painted under the eyes to signify the sun which will help the boys see the light on the Cub Scout trail. The boys' noses were painted with white for purity, as a reminder to know right from wrong. Each of their chins received a red mark for courage and to remind them to always speak the truth, and green was painted on each cheek to help guide the scout to live in harmony with the great outdoors.
Guido’s of Norfolk provided a lunch of pizza, pasta, meatball and salad.

The guests at the event included several past scouts and leaders as well as a recently awarded Eagle Scout, Cody Carneiro, who spoke inspirationally about how he had enjoyed all the phases of scouting and the positive impact it has had on his life. The Cub Scouts eagerly questioned Cody about his favorite merit badge, what he liked best about scouting, and details about his service project.
Each den created a unique centerpiece depicting a past decade in scouting and Dotty Larson created a collage of scouting pictures from throughout the years which was surrounded by Scout memorabilia. Scoutmaster Ted Lukes also recognized parent volunteers and pack leaders for their service. For more information on the activities of Pack 131 Cub Scouts contact Pack131Wrentham@gmail.com.
