Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women recognized Wrentham's Dotty Larsen as an "Unsung Heroine" at a special State House luncheon. At the age of 80, Larsen, or better known simply by her first name Dotty, does it all.
In addition to her job at Walmart, she works at Wrentham Town Hall in the Town Clerk's office and with the Public Health Nurses. She also volunteers at the Purr-fect Cat Shelter in Millis, Wrentham Food Pantry, serves as a committee member of Wrentham Cub Scout Pack 131, and becomes a Christmas elf for the Wrentham Common Tree lighting, Cub Scout Christmas party, and annual Senior Center Holiday event. Dotty was recognized in 2012 by the Cub Scouts for 20 years of service, and even had a scholarship established in her name.
The nomination was formally submitted by State Senator Richard Ross but was pushed for by Dotty's friend Holly Wheeler. "She does not realize all the people she inspires," Wheeler said.
Ross said, “I have known Dotty for most of my life and am truly honored to be able to recognize her as an Unsung Heroine. Dotty is the one who makes our community great, who challenges us to be better and to always give back.”
Ross added, “Dotty offers so much to the town and asks for nothing in return because it is what she loves to do. She has inspired many and impacted countless lives and I cannot thank her enough for all that she has done,” said Senator Ross.
Speaking at the State House, Dotty said, "If I had my choice, and if I had plenty of money, I would do this work all of my life."
The Unsung Heroines are women who don’t always make the news, but truly make a difference. That's Wrentham's Dotty.
